Brenda R. Brand

Associate Professor Elementary Education/Literacy and Science Education

Brenda R. Brand is an Associate Professor in the Elementary Education, Literacy and Science Education programs at Virginia Tech, and she teachers science education courses for elementary and secondary pre-service teachers. She received her Masters and PhD in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on Science Education from Virginia Tech.

Prior to joining the Virginia Tech faculty in 2001, Dr. Brand served as the K-12 science supervisor for Montgomery County (VA) Public Schools. Her primary role was to oversee the implementation of the science curriculum and professional development for in-service teachers.

Dr. Brand's research interests focus on sociocultural factors influencing both teaching and learning in STEM disciplines with specific emphasis on individuals from underrepresented groups.
